Thirty Day Self Improvement Challenge
"Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice."
Wayne W Dyer
Day Two:
Short Term and Long Term Goals
Why do we want things? It's a real tough question isn't it? You can literally lose yourself in thought wondering why you really want something. You will find that when you ask yourself this question you will do a lot of thinking about the past. What made this worth it, why did I develop a passion for this or that, what was I lacking when I was young. You will be able to relate your question back to even to the earliest days you can remember. From the time your born you are programed. What you pick up and learn from your parents and your surroundings is the foundation to your future belief systems. This data is stored in your subconscious mind, it will effect all of your future actions and emotions. But that is not the end all be all, you can erase past beliefs and build new empowering ones.
Take one hundred percent responsibility for yourself, and understand that what happens in your life good or bad is created from you. You have the power to accept that, or not. The choice is yours and only yours. Take responsibility for yourself. Forgive yourself for your past actions. Thank yourself for your future opportunities. Love yourself for learning this now and for everything that you have and will become. That's the way to erase old beliefs, and set the platform for future and empowering ones. Setting short term and long terms goals will help you stay focused and determined along the way. As you accomplish your future goals, take note of your new sense of accomplishment. You will no longer have the old belief of doubt, but a belief of confidence and worth.
You should get in the habit of setting daily goals. It can be something simple like reading a certain amount of pages in a new book, or running, and even doing house work. The goal can be anything you wish. Make your daily goals or short term goals something that you can accomplish, to help build your confidence, and bring you closer to obtaining your long term goals.
Make your goals in line with your passions and what you want to do with your life. If you want to become a writer, make your daily goal something to do with that passion. Create longer goals as milestones that you will accomplish with your daily goals.
Create a goal list and write out your short term goals. I create monthly goals which are my my short term goals that build off of my daily goals. From there you create yearly goals which build off your monthly goals. Then above everything create a main goal, which everything stems off of. This goal is your passion, or your dream. Everything you wish to live for is built off of this lifetime goal.
1. Write out your Passion or Dream. This should encompass everything you would wish for if you had no limitations.
2. Write out your goal for this year. Most people over estimate what they can do in a day, but underestimate what they can do in a year. Do not cut yourself short, aim for the stars this year.
3. Then create your goal for next month. At the beginning of each month create a new monthly goal based off of your last months performance.
4. Write your daily goal for the next day each night before you go to bed. Associate these goals with your long term monthly goals.

Wonderful article on setting goals.
I think this is the point at which 90% of people fall down when it comes to realizing / manifesting their goals - we don't write them down.
I have been reading many of the classic books (Napoleon Hill, James Allen, Charles Haanel, etc - Integrated Success Program) and there is an active component to manifesting goals / dreams. Writing them down (and repeating them as affirmations - as advocated by Napoleon Hill) is very important.
My opinion for your consideration.
