One of the key components of learning how to take necessary actions consistently is focus. Some people sit around and write and rewrite goals over and over again, and never accomplish anything. People also sit around and procrastinate and never complete anything as well.
No matter what your spending your time doing, if you don't start taking actions and continue to wait in preliminary mode, you'll never accomplish anything worthwhile.
How can you take action and not view it as a pain, but happens automatically like a habit? How do you get moving to start taking action? How can you cross the barrier from just thinking about what you want to actually accomplishing it?
Here is my five step technique I use. This has worked well for me when Ive applied it, and its a great way to get life in focus and take quick direct action.
- Stop
- Reevaluate
- Redefine your goals
- Block out the negativity
- Go to work
I know this article is about taking action, so some of you may be wondering why I am telling you the first step of taking action is stopping. We get so caught up in our thoughts and where we are in life. At times we just need to come to a screeching halt, and give ourselves time to focus.
Reevaluate
As soon as you finally take some time to focus the next step is to reevaluate what you are currently doing. Are you getting results from the actions you are currently taking? Does it seem like your getting any closer to your goals? Albert Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Are you in this type of cycle? Reevaluate what your doing and cut the activities that don't bring you joy or closer to your goals.
Redefine Your Goals
Make your goals clear, and write them down! Are these goals still relevant today as they were when you created them? Are you working towards your own personal fulfillment or those of others? Make sure your goals are specific and strong.
Block Out the Negativity
We all seem to have nay sayers in our lives. Negativity is like a virus and can destroy anyones attitude and goals. You have to take inventory of the people you spend the most time with. Are they supportive and bringing you closer to your goals? If not it may be time to have a talk with them or part ways.
Go To Work
As soon as you have finished the four previous steps, go back to work with passion. You will feel rejuvenated and full of strength.
