Now that you have a understanding of the importance of goal setting from the last article in this series The Brain is a Goal Seeking Organism its now time to get down to business.
"We come this way but once. We can either tiptoe through life and hope that we get to death without being too badly bruised or we can live a full, complete life achieving our goals and realizing our wildest dreams."
-Bob Proctor Quotes
To be honest goal setting is extremely easy, and the truth is, its easy enough that the average person ignores it. Do not let yourself fall into the bottom 95%-97% of people who do not have clear defined goals. Your success depends on it.
Its time to stop waiting for:
Perfection
Someone to change
An absence of risk
Acceptance
Someone to discover you
The pain to go away
Inspiration
The perfect time
Or all the other things that may be holding you back. Your time is now! You have to stop waiting and realize that the time will never be just right to get started. You need to start now or you never will! Nothing happens until you take action!
"Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle"
-Abraham Lincoln Quotes
In order for a goal to successfully reach your subconscious mind it must be specific and meet two criteria. First it must describe how much (pounds, dollars, pages, distance) and second it must describe by when (exact dates and times). Being specific is integral to accomplishing your goals. Weak goals will produce weak results!
Here are a few examples of well defined goals:
- I will purchase a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro at the local dealer in Saratoga Springs NY, by noon, October 31st 2010.
- I will weigh 175 pounds by 8 AM, January 1st 2012
- I will complete 5 articles on Success Demands Action by this Saturday, October 3rd, by 10pm
One of the best ways to write specific goals is by writing them out in detail. Include every possible attribute. The more detail and description you add to your goals the easier they will be to visualize. By doing so the result will be a smooth translation to your subconscious.
