Self Improvement: Do more than Expected

"What you want to be eventually, that you must be every day; and by and by the quality of your deeds will get down into your soul."
Napoleon Hill

One of the hardest things I have had to learn is that every person should be their own hardest taskmaster. We are all great builders of alibis and excuses in support of shortcomings. When we do things like this we are not searching for facts and truths, but as we wish them to be. People prefer words of flattery than words of cold and unbiased truths.

Unfortunately telling the truth, and giving people exact unbiased truths, can be hurtful. But it is necessary. The person that learns that the advice given was truth, and not just plain flattery, is the person who holds the most chance for success. If you do not present them that opportunity, there is no chance.

"Now let me tell you a secret,  a secret that I have had to gather from grief and heartaches and unnecessary punishment of the hardest sort: Instead of quitting the job because there were obstacles to master and difficulties to be overcome, if you had faced the facts you would have better understood that life itself is just one long series of mastery of difficulties and obstacles."

Allen,
In my experience, we are our own harshest critics. But just as you pointed out, we build great alibis and excuses...then we beat ourselves up for not living up to our own expectations. I personally would rather hear truths (however difficult to take), given in the spirit of support and growth, than live ignorant of the things that may hold be back.

You have an interesting blog - I'll be visiting often...
