TweetNo matter how motivated you are- me, you, and even Tony Robbins, we all can feel unmotivated at times. It's even possible to get into a slump where even thinking about making a positive change can cause a headache.
I know it sometimes feels impossible to get going. I have been there. No matter how unmotivated you are- it's not hopeless: Action is the key. Just start moving and don't allow yourself to think about it. Even if you start slowly and take baby steps, eventually you will gain momentum.
Here are a few techniques I use to push myself to get going and start making positive change. I hope that they will be of use to you as well.
1. Success Demands Action: When I am feeling down and out, action is the only thing that brings me back in the game. I spend a moment to recenter and quite all the noise of life. I literally close my eyes and erase all the negative thoughts and emotions. When I reopen my eyes I see the world in a new refreshed light. From that moment forward I simply just start moving. I take whatever steps I can and continue to move forward until I build the needed momentum to accomplish whatever goal is at hand.
2. What Are You Grateful For: Being in a state of gratitude is one of the greatest pick me ups you can use. Just the fact that you have the capability to read this is something to be grateful for. When you stop focusing on all those limiting factors, and start thinking about everything you do have instead of don't, you will find yourself in a more resourceful state. I accomplish this best by creating a Gratitude List. I do this by sitting down with a pad of paper and a pencil and writing down everything I am grateful for. This is a great way to gain a much needed perspective in tough times. To learn more about this technique view: 100 Things To Be Grateful For
3. Self Improvement Study: Nothing has been more profound in changing my life than the study of self improvement. My life and future was forever changed when I picked up that first copy of Think and Grow Rich Sense then I have spent at least thirty minutes daily reading some sort of self improvement or personal development book. This has been a integral step of mine to create a clear, focused, and positive mental state. To see some of my personal favorites and in my opinion life changing please view: Life Changing Books
4. Go For A Run: Running has been a personal antidote of mine to fight lack of energy and motivation. Running has helped me maintain a physically fit body, enhanced energy, and confidence. There is nothing like going on a run with a distance you've never attempted before and continuing on till the end. The sense of accomplishment you get from doing so will stay with you and push you when trying to accomplish other goals. For more information about running please view: How A Run A Day Changed My Life
5. Ask A Friend: When I am feeling iffy about something and I'm not quite sure how I'm doing or if I'm putting forth enough effort, I often rely on my closest friends for criticism. As long as your friends are a good support system and are also willing to level with you and tell you the truth, I highly recommend this technique. A close friends viewpoint of yourself or what you are doing is almost always enough to push someone into taking action.
"Before success comes in any man's life, he's sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps some failures. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. That's exactly what the majority of men do."

Loomis,
Great advice! Thanks.
Since I've been prone to the very thing you've written about due to an on-again, off-again work cycle, I've found that action, as you said, does in fact stop the downward trajectory of a day.
Thanks for spreading the nice information.
