A major part in achieving the dream life you desire is learning how to give. This is especially true in terms of relationships and friendships. A lot of people believe that in order to get what you want you have to take it.
But in reality the true path to getting what you want is your ability to give. What you give- you shall get, and what you sow- you shall reap. The same is true with friendships and relationships of all sorts. But if this is true, what must we give in order to achieve successful friendships? This article will show you how to do just that.
Show Your Friends Respect
In most cases we give people respect on what they have done or have accomplished. We give them respect based on what we know of them or what they are related too. I believe in order to achieve long lasting friendships we have to stop thinking this way. Instead we must give people respect for simply being them. Everyone is unique, and you can never truly understand a person unless you have walked in their shoes. Instead of gauging if someone is worthy of respect or not, just give everyone respect, they all deserve it.
Show Your Friends Honesty
A true successful person is not only wealthy in financial terms, but they are also people of character. To become a true success you must accomplish your goals, and at the same time keep your character. If you wish to become someone who can share their success with others and feel happy about it, you must build strong friendships. In order to build strong friendships you must become a person of complete honesty.
“What is uttered from the heart alone, Will win the hearts of others to your own.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
A lot of people believe that in order to become a success you have to bend the truth. Thats simply not true. Some of the most successful people who have ever lived were people of honesty and integrity.
Show Your Friends Passion
There is nothing in the world more powerful than passionate people. People who will continue to push on no matter what the circumstance is in order to achieve their goals and keep their character. This is the type of person you need to be for your friends. Be someone who motivates and inspires them. Help push them to new limits and become more of themselves. It is said that we become an average of the top 5 people we hang out with most. Be a strong person of passion to help develop that in your friends as well. They will love you for it, and achieve much because of it. Share the Passion!
Show Your Friends That You Care
From time to time its easy to get caught up in our lives and how hectic it can be. But we have to take moments for a break every now and then and reflect. Tell your friends and family how important they are to you, and how far you have come because of them. Don't take your friends for granted, they are the strongest system of support we can have.
Give Your Friends Help
Don't only expect your friends to be there for you, you must be there for them as well. Show them empathy, love, and care. Be there to help them when they need help. Be a part of that strong foundation they need in order to achieve their dreams and goals.
Reflection Questions:
1. When you evaluate your friends, do you consider them people who strengthen you, and care for you? Or are they people who often tend to nudge you off course?
2. How much of a resource are your friends, and are you taking advantage of what they have to offer? How much of a resource are you for them, and are you doing all you can do to help them?
3. Do you keep a good balance of fun and good times with your friends? If so how often and when? If not how can you spend more time with them, and just focus on good times?
4. Do you care for your friends? Do you go out of your way to help them out? Do your friends go out of their way to help you out?
5.Do you spend enough time with your friends? Are you working on maintaining your friendships and growing them?
Action Steps:
1. Evaluate how much time you spend with your friends? Are you spending enough time with them? Review your schedule and set up a slot for just friend time. No work involved. Just a good time with you and your friends.
2. Are any of your friends in need? What can you do to help them out? Its not always about what you can give them physically, maybe they just need someone there to help support them and build their self confidence back up. Can you be there for a friend this week?
3. Do something this week that shows you care for your friends. Don't just think about it, actually do it!
All in all when it comes down to it, success is all about what you can do to help others. The more you can give back and create a long lasting legacy of love and passion, that is what it really means to be successful.
